Day 386–Weigh In!

Oh Tuesdays…you bring me such joy.  In fact, as Tuesdays go, this was the best one all week. Scouts’ honor.

Started the day off with a weigh in…220. Boom.  That means I’m down 6.6 lbs in the last three weeks, and I’m somehow miraculously on track for 215 by 2/19.  It’s amazing what constantly moving will do for your metabolism…thank you Bonnie Ruth’s.  That’s right; I spend 8 hours a day around delicious cake and I lose weight. #Winning

Today also featured a wonderful trip to Allen High School to see Jordan.  I tweaked their stock cookie recipe to make it more aesthetic (and delicious), helped out with his ProStar team, and had a great conversation with one of his friends about the future of cooking.  And I also got to see Shaelana for a while, which was very cool.

Tomorrow begins the “let’s see how many hours Jason can work in the span of 6 days” tour, ending with moving and more papers to write. Sweet.

Breakfast–Frosted Mini Wheats with a banana.  I was tempted to celebrate with some Nutella, but then I realized I was running late to get to AHS. Cereal is speedy…so there you go.

Lunch–Tasting at the ProStar trial.  Some steak, butternut squash, masa cake…and of course, lots of my cookies. Whoops.

Dinner–Green chile chicken stew and cornbread.  A nice, spicy, light soup to finish off the day, and I got to use a bit of my black raspberry jalapeno jelly on the cornbread, so winners all the way around today.

Tomorrow is work and some research into a new baking project…I’ll let you know more as we move on. Here’s to losing more weight!

Day 381–Thursday Blog Entry

It’s been so long since I consistently blogged I can’t even come up with snappy titles any more. Sadness.

Today was a solid day at work, consistent business but nothing too overwhelming.  This, of course, is completely fine by me because tomorrow has the potential to completely wipe me out.  It’s been a couple of weeks since I worked a weekend evening, so hopefully I can get back in the groove quickly. It’s amazing how quickly a “groove” has been established in the few short weeks I’ve been there. I actually like going to work, I have my own way of doing things, and we all work together extremely well.  It’s a good place.

Breakfast–Frosted Mini Wheats with a sliced banana.  Nice and filling.

Lunch–Yeah…about that.  I had a spoonful of peanut butter. Didn’t really have a chance to do much else.  Not so healthy, but at least it had some protein in it to keep me going.  I’ve also realized that I eat a LOT just for the sake of eating.  I can be totally fine with a sandwich for lunch and a small snack 2-3 hours later, and yet if I’m not at work I usually eat two sandwiches with chips and an apple or something else.  I think I just have a skewed vision of what a “meal” actually consists of, even a year-plus into this journey.

Dinner–Mom’s roast with potatoes and carrots…INCREDIBLE.  When I left I walked by the Village Burger Bar, which I’ve never eaten at but it was exuding this amazing smell of grilled beef.  I called home to ask what we were having for dinner, and lo and behold…red meat. Perfect. I had one giant plateful and was sated and happy.

No blog tomorrow…I’m going to be tired. Try not to cry.

Day 379–Sorry About That…

There are two reasons I’ve stopped blogging:

1) If I work a double and I don’t get home until 10 or 11 pm, I don’t feel like jumping on here and telling you about my day. I want to sleep.  Sorry if that’s selfish, but its the honest truth.

2) If I work a normal shift, I eat TERRIBLY and feel slightly guilty, and so I don’t want to tell you about my day.  That’s both selfish AND the honest truth.

Since today was my day off (which coincidentally is also weigh-in day) I’ll get back to my normal bloggy happiness. However, this may be it for the week. You’ve been warned.

I hopped on the scale this morning and was pleasantly surprised by…224! I’ve lost two pounds since last week, and while I’m certainly off track for my 215 by 2/19 resolution, its not dead in the water either.  Hopefully I can continue to lose and keep up with everything else that’s been going on, including a MAJOR increase in hours at work. Apparently they like me.

Breakfast–Two pieces of whole wheat toast with Justin’s Chocolate Peanut Butter and a banana.  Great way to start the morning…I’ll probably do it again tomorrow before work!

Lunch–Two flatbread sandwiches with some black pepper ham, buffalo chicken, and some spinach with a half a serving of pita chips. We watched Jeopardy during lunch and I willingly guessed Willa Cather as the answer to Final Jeopardy…made me feel dirty all over. I despise her writing almost as much as I despise Nathaniel Hawthorne. To put it another way, when studying Dante’s Inferno in high school we were tasked with creating our own hell, complete with levels/layers/whatever.  She got her own little section.

Snack–I had a Dr Pepper while reading for class.  My day off consisted of cleaning, reading, writing papers, and working on some certifications for work. I am a party animal.

Dinner–Two sliders, some sweet potato fries that I accidentally made WAY too hot for the general population, and a side salad. Delicious.

Tomorrow is another day at work…come by Bonnie Ruth’s in Allen if you can!

Day 373–Back to Class

Today started, in earnest, the beginning of my online classes for the semester.  In reality yesterday was the official “start date,” but we had to post an “all about me” on Facebook.  That’s not much of an assignment when it comes to reading material, so I’m going to call it for today.  I wrote my first paper in a while, and I have to admit it makes me feel a bit like a three year old. I’ve either completely forgotten how to write or my standards have inflated and what I used to do just isn’t good enough. I sincerely hope my professors think otherwise, but sheesh…I’m going to need some practice. Any thoughts on the field of biblical theology anyone would like to share?

Work today was SLOOOOOOW.  Like, I feel as if I need to apologize to all previous work days for calling them slow because this was just nuts.  It was also (apparently) National Don’t Tip Your Waiter/Waitress Day…had some stingy customers all around today. It did give me an opportunity to watch some high quality soccer with the Real Madrid/Barcelona Copa Del Rey match, and both of those teams are GOOD.  I appreciate good soccer because I very much suck at it. Always have, in theory always will.

Breakfast–My last bowl of mixed up Cheerios. Moment of silence…and moving on to the new box of Honey Nut tomorrow.

Lunch–Peanut butter and strawberry jelly sandwich…and a piece or two of cake scraps, one of which actually had strawberry filling in it. Look! Irony!

Dinner–Date night with Abs.  We went to Genghis Grill and indulged in some Mongolian Barbecue goodness.  I had two bowls, but the second one was almost all vegetables so I felt better about that.  I’m still incredibly full from dinner two hours later, so I think I did well on eating.  At work my metabolism seems to be on overdrive and I can’t ever get full, so this is a unique feeling.

Tomorrow Mom comes back and another day of work.  Let’s hope for a little more business!

Day 372–Reboot

So yeah, about the whole blogging thing…my bad.  Working doubles while trying to read for classes and keep life in order didn’t leave much time for blogging, and honestly I didn’t eat consistently last week either. Sometimes I’d eat two meals a day, sometimes 3, and occasionally 4 if it was really long.  The good news is that even with my erratic dining and complete lack of real workouts, I still lost .6 lbs this week…down to 226 flat. I’ll take it, and hopefully do better this week with a more consistent schedule.  I still need to get back on track with my exercise though, which is easier said than done with my legs hurting from squats at work and my feet killing me because I didn’t have good shoes until today.  Perhaps by Thursday everything will be back in line…

Breakfast–Frosted Mini Wheats.  I munched on a serving while fixing my lunch and getting ready for work.

Lunch–Peanut butter and strawberry preserve sandwich and part of a loaf of rosemary bread (separate from the sandwich…PB&J on rosemary sounds horrid). I lightly snacked throughout work today because it was slooooooooow.

Dinner–Blue Goose, where I had beef fajitas with grilled mushrooms and green peppers.  It was very good, although the tamales are still better.  I’m just not sure which one is actually healthier…

Tomorrow is another day of work followed by lots of paper writing. Should be a blast!

Day 367–Joyeux Anniversaire

Happy Birthday Dad…Love you.

Today was a slower day at work. I realize I’ve only worked there for eight days, and have only gone into work for five of those eight, but this was the first non-training/non-first time alone/non-brunch/non-closing/non-doing something new of those days, and so a bit of a edge was gone.  It was also a Thursday after school started again and there just wasn’t much business.  I’m sure tomorrow (and Saturday and Sunday…) will pick up a lot.  It gave me lots of time to talk to Jonnie and “obsessively clean” as she calls it (much to the chagrin of my mother, I’m sure, who couldn’t get me to clean at all growing up) and organize some things though, so that was nice. And tomorrow I get to work with someone again, which is always more fun and makes things go much more smoothly and much faster.

Breakfast–The second to last bowl of my Cheerios mixture…tomorrow is going to be a sad day.  There was even a single, solitary Apple Cinnamon Cheerio in the bowl to remind me of the good times.

Lunch–Here’s where things get a bit shady.  Since I worked from 10-5, lunch is kind of a “get it when you can” proposition.  Therefore, for lunch today I had a Fiber One bar.  And some tea. Whoops.

Dinner–Birthday dinner!  Ginger steak crostini with caramelized onions, sauteed asparagus, and some skillet potatoes. It was AMAZING. I work around some pretty impressive food, but I’m not sure Mom’s isn’t better.  The really incredible thing is that we eat like this a lot. She’s good people.

Dessert–I got a cupcake. Peanut butter-chocolate. And yes, it was good.

We’ll see about working out tomorrow…my legs are informing me I might have worked out today unintentionally. Time to hit the Aleve…

Day 366–Restart

Admittedly, I didn’t behave today like I was coming off a weight-loss high.  I think the idea of “celebrating” got in my head a little bit yesterday, so I didn’t exercise (per se) like I should have.  I did, however, attempt to manage portions…so that’s nice.

I’ve started reading in earnest for my online classes, and I must say…the first book for Biblical Theology sucks. I’m through a book and a half for H2, but the BT book might be the death of me. Or I’ll skim it and move on to the next one…haven’t decided yet.  I think I need to see how the class is going to play out before I know how to allot my time efficiently between the classes and work.

Speaking of work, tonight we ate at Bonnie Ruth’s and I had the pleasure of meeting Bonnie Ruth. She’s incredibly nice, and the cherry on top is that she’s “heard great things about me.”  When a woman that successful with those recipes hears good things, it’s quite the honor.  Now I just need to keep it up, starting with 33 hrs over the next four days.

Breakfast–Frosted Mini Wheats with a banana.  I forgot how much I like FMW, and they’re pretty darn good for you as well. Lotsa fiber…

Snack–Chocolate Nature Valley bar.  I’m slightly addicted to their chocolatey goodness, but the sugar content is way too high for me to make it a regular occurrence.  Gotta cut back!

Lunch–Two egg omelette w/ sauteed mushrooms, onions, and spaghetti squash.  I glazed them all in a little of the Riesling we got in Evergreen, Colorado at Creekside Cellars, and let me tell you: they were DELICIOUS.  Fantastic omelette, if I do say so myself.

Dinner–Steak Frites at BR’s.  Great steak, fantastic fries, and we even got a crostini appetizer that had a duck/white bean ragout on it that was fantastic.  I do love me some duck.

Dessert–Duh…its Bonnie Ruth’s.  I had about a third of a piece of the caramel coconut pecan cake, which is basically German chocolate cake but with yellow cake instead of chocolate.  Pretty darn good.

Work tomorrow, and my Dad’s birthday!  Happy Birthday Dad!
